A DA 70 Guest Post and a DA 30 Guest Post. Here Is What Actually Differs.

Most brands assume higher DA always means a better guest post placement.

It does not.

A DA 70 site with 500 monthly visitors delivers less value than a DA 40 site with 50,000 monthly visitors — even though the authority score looks dramatically better on paper. A single DA 70+ placement on the right site can move your target keyword rankings more than fifty low-quality placements. But that same DA 70 placement on a general site with no topical connection to your niche can underperform a DA 45 niche-specific site in actual ranking movement.

The number is a starting point. What matters is what sits behind it.

What DA Actually Measures — and What It Does Not

Domain Authority is a metric developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search results. Domain Rating, Ahrefs' equivalent, measures the same thing through a different calculation. Both are useful proxies for a site's overall link equity and search authority.

What neither metric tells you is whether the site has real readers, whether its traffic is genuine, or whether a link from that site is relevant to your specific content and target audience.

A site can accumulate a high DA through old backlinks, expired domain history, or a link profile built years ago that no longer reflects the site's current standing. That DA number sits there looking impressive while the site attracts almost no organic traffic and offers almost nothing to the brands that place guest posts on it.

Conversely, a niche-focused site with a DA of 38 that attracts 25,000 monthly visitors in your specific industry — people who are actively engaged with content about your category — can produce measurably better ranking movement on your commercial keywords than a DA 70 general lifestyle site with no thematic connection to what you do.

The Three Things That Actually Matter

Real organic traffic. Not total traffic — organic traffic. Visitors arriving from search engines, actively reading content in your space. Guest posting services price for DA 30 sites at around $30 to $80 per placement. DA 70+ sites run $400 to $800 or more. The difference in price is real. Whether it reflects a difference in value depends entirely on whether the traffic behind the DA score is genuine.

Topical relevance. Google's algorithm evaluates the context of a link — not just the authority of the domain it comes from. A link within an article about digital marketing on a digital marketing publication passes relevance context that the algorithm recognizes. The same link from a general content site that publishes about everything from travel to finance to fitness passes authority without context. For competitive keywords, that context is often the deciding factor.

Editorial standards. Sites that accept any submission offer nothing of value to the brand appearing on them. The sites worth being on reject content that does not meet their editorial threshold. Getting published on a site with real editorial standards is a signal — to search engines and to readers — that the content was considered worth including. That signal does not exist on sites that publish anything.

What This Means When Buying Guest Posts

A DA 30 placement has limited use cases. For a brand new site with almost no existing backlink profile, a cluster of DA 30 to DA 45 placements on niche-relevant sites builds an initial foundation. Expecting meaningful ranking movement on competitive keywords from DA 30 sites is unrealistic.

DA 50 and above, on sites with genuine organic traffic and topical relevance to your niche, is where guest posting starts to move rankings in any measurable way. DA 70+ on the right site — real audience, niche aligned, editorial — is the premium tier. It costs more. It delivers more.

The mistake is paying DA 70 prices for a site that scores that number because of an old link profile and now attracts almost no traffic.

DA is a number. What sits behind it is what you are actually paying for.
