How Much Does a Press Release Cost in India in 2026?

If you're planning to distribute a press release in India, the first question is always the same: how much will it cost?

The honest answer is that it depends. A basic release on a few online portals can cost as little as ₹500, while a premium placement on a national publication like Hindustan Times or Business Standard can run into tens of thousands. Wire syndication through ANI or PTI sits somewhere in between.

The problem is that most agencies don't publish their pricing. You send an enquiry, wait for a quote, negotiate back and forth, and still end up wondering if you got a fair deal. We think that's unnecessary friction in a process that should be straightforward.

Here's what press release distribution actually costs in India right now, based on what we see across the market and our own network of 1,000+ publications.

The Short Version

If you're in a hurry, here's the range:

Basic online distribution (₹500–₹5,000): Your release gets published on smaller news portals and aggregator sites. Good for SEO backlinks and basic online presence, but unlikely to get picked up by journalists or mainstream media.

Mid-tier targeted distribution (₹5,000–₹15,000): Your release reaches industry-specific outlets, regional newspapers, and curated media lists. Better targeting, better credibility, and usually includes some form of placement guarantee.

Premium national publications (₹15,000–₹50,000+): Direct placement on top-tier sites like Hindustan Times, India Today, Outlook, NDTV, Economic Times, or Business Standard. These are the placements that move the needle for brand credibility, investor confidence, and search visibility.

Wire syndication (₹8,000–₹30,000+): Distribution through ANI, PTI, or similar wire services that push your release to hundreds of newsrooms simultaneously. The release appears across dozens of outlets automatically, though editorial pickup depends on the newsworthiness of your story.

What Affects the Price

The Publication Tier

Not all publications charge the same. A placement on a niche tech blog costs a fraction of what a national daily charges. The Domain Authority (DA) of the publication, its monthly traffic, and its editorial reputation all influence pricing.

In our network, publications range from $10 (for smaller regional outlets) to $500+ (for premium nationals). The spread is wide because the value delivered is genuinely different — a placement on Economic Times reaches a fundamentally different audience than a placement on a local news portal.

Some publications offer DoFollow links in the article, which pass SEO authority to your website. Others use NoFollow links, which don't directly impact search rankings but still drive referral traffic and brand mentions.

DoFollow placements typically cost more because of their SEO value. If your goal is link building alongside brand visibility, this distinction matters. If your goal is purely media coverage and credibility, NoFollow works just as well.

Content Type

A standard press release placement (where the publication runs your content as-is) is usually cheaper than a guest post or editorial placement (where you provide a longer, opinion-style article). Guest posts tend to get better engagement because they read like editorial content rather than announcements.

Some publications offer both options at different price points. When comparing quotes, make sure you're comparing the same content type.

Index vs No-Index

Indexed articles appear in Google search results, which means they continue driving traffic long after publication. No-index articles don't appear in Google, limiting their visibility to the publication's direct audience.

Indexed placements generally cost more and deliver more long-term value. If you're investing in a single high-quality placement, indexed is worth the premium.

Turnaround Time

Standard turnaround is 2–5 business days. Expedited or same-day distribution usually comes with a surcharge. If your release is time-sensitive (product launch, event, funding announcement), factor in the rush fee.

How India Compares to Global Pricing

For context, here's what major international wire services charge:

PR Newswire charges around $350 for local US distribution, but a full national release with multimedia can exceed $1,200 after membership fees and add-ons. Business Wire starts around $500 and goes up to $2,500+ for comprehensive distribution. GlobeNewswire sits in the $350–$900 range for North America.

Indian distribution is significantly more affordable. You can get quality national coverage in India for what a single local distribution costs in the US. This makes India an attractive market for global brands looking to establish a media presence without the budget requirements of Western wire services.

The Hidden Costs Nobody Mentions

When budgeting for press releases, factor in these often-overlooked costs:

Content writing: If your release isn't ready to publish, most agencies charge separately for writing and editing. Expect ₹3,000–₹10,000 for professional press release writing.

GST: All Indian agencies charge 18% GST on top of the quoted price. A ₹10,000 placement becomes ₹11,800 after tax.

Revisions and approvals: Some publications require editorial changes before publishing. If the back-and-forth takes multiple rounds, it can delay your release and sometimes incur additional fees.

Proof of placement: Reputable agencies provide placement links and screenshots. Some charge extra for detailed analytics or media monitoring reports.

How to Get the Best Value

Based on what we've seen working with hundreds of brands:

Start with your goal, not your budget. If you need credibility for investor meetings, invest in 2-3 premium national placements rather than 20 small portal posts. If you need SEO backlinks, focus on indexed DoFollow placements on high-DA sites. If you need mass visibility for a product launch, wire syndication gives the broadest reach per rupee.

Compare apples to apples. When getting quotes from multiple agencies, ensure you're comparing the same publication tier, content type, follow type, and index status. A ₹5,000 quote for a NoFollow placement on a DA-30 site is not comparable to a ₹15,000 quote for a DoFollow placement on a DA-80 site.

Ask for transparent pricing. The best agencies will show you exactly which publications are available at which prices, rather than packaging everything behind opaque "plans" where you don't know what you're getting until after you've paid.

Think campaigns, not single releases. One press release rarely moves the needle. A consistent cadence of 2-4 releases per month across targeted publications builds cumulative visibility. Many agencies offer volume discounts for ongoing campaigns.

Our Approach at Kanil PRwire

We built our Pricing Portal specifically because we were tired of the opacity in this industry. Every publication in our network is listed with its actual price, DA score, turnaround time, follow type, and index status — visible to anyone, no enquiry required.

Clients can browse the full list, filter by country, language, or budget, compare options side-by-side, and submit enquiries directly. Reseller partners get access to exclusive reseller pricing. Everything is transparent because we believe that's how business should work.
